Seed Germination & Growing Conditions

There are many factors that can affect seed germination and plant growth. These include soil or growing medium, temperature, moisture, light, planting depth, seed storage, and individual growing practices.

We operate our own nursery and grow many of the same types of seeds that we sell. However, growing conditions can vary considerably from one customer to another.

We encourage customers to research the specific germination requirements for each variety before planting. If you have a question about starting or growing your seeds, please feel free to contact us.

Because growing conditions are outside our control after the seeds are delivered, we cannot guarantee individual germination or growing results.

How We Package Our Seeds

We take care when packaging seeds to help keep them protected and organized.

Seeds are repackaged into appropriate protective packaging. Many standard seeds are packaged in resealable plastic bags, while pelleted seeds are packaged in protective plastic tubes when appropriate to help prevent the pellets from being crushed or damaged.

Seed quantities may be determined by count or weight, depending on the variety and package size.

Storing Seeds Before Planting

Proper storage is important, especially if you purchase seeds several months before you plan to plant them.

For most seeds, store them in a cool, dark, dry location and protect them from excessive heat and moisture.

Cool storage can help maintain seed quality. If storing seeds for an extended period, approximately 40°F can be suitable for many varieties when the seeds are also kept dry and properly sealed.

Different seed varieties may have different storage requirements, so customers should research the particular varieties they purchase when planning long-term storage.
